About the Arava Insitute: The Arava Institute is located in the southern Arava desert of Israel and functions as a hub for regional cross-border environmental cooperation. Founded in 1996, the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies has operated with the philosophy that environmental solutions can be a basis for bringing people together in a region where trust is otherwise scarce. The Institute’s flagship operation is its academic program where students and research interns from Israel, Palestine, Jordan, and other nations live in a community for 4 to 8 months while engaging in environmental studies as well as dialogue forums. Beyond the academic program, the Institute’s research centers and Center for Applied Environmental Diplomacy function to implement projects and foster partnerships across the region.
