Teen Film Contest Screenings 2025

Date : Sunday, May 18, 2025

The 2025 Teen Film Contest continues JxJ’s initiative to support young filmmakers. This year, the contest invites students aged 13 to 18 to explore the powerful concept of identity. Supported by donor Richard Solloway, the contest challenges participants to create a one—to three-minute short film responding to the theme “What Does Identity Mean To You? “How Do You Identify?”

In addition to the contest, JxJ is dedicated to supporting young filmmakers through workshops across Virginia, DC, and Maryland. These hands-on sessions held in schools like DC International School and Bethesda Chevy Chase, teach students the tools of cinematography, offer a creative space to brainstorm, and provide essential skills to help them grow as filmmakers. Students begin with analyzing film scenes, focusing on lighting, angles, and composition. This approach highlights how filmmaking choices can influence the story and emotion of a scene. After this analysis, students get the chance to put their knowledge into practice by recording a small scene or taking photos to present to their peers.

Through these initiatives, JxJ fosters a platform for young people to share their stories, empowering the next generation of filmmakers to express their unique perspective through the art of film.
