Capital J

Capital J is a bold new program hosting prominent Jewish voices sharing their perspectives at the EDCJCC and around DC.

Overview

Capital J hosts prominent Jewish voices from politics, media, culture, business, and the arts to help us explore what it means to be Jewish in America in our present moment. Featuring high-profile speakers at mainstage events in the EDCJCC’s Aaron and Cecil Goldman Theater and intimate living room gatherings across DC, Capital J is driven by bold conversations. More than a lecture series, Capital J is a forum for the DC Jewish community to wrestle — openly and honestly — with the issues of the day and an exploration of the roles we play in shaping the national conversation and how that conversation shapes us in return.

Past Events

Our inaugural season Uneasy (Fall 2025) explored how Jewish artists, intellectuals, and journalists are navigating the current moment through their respective lenses. In this time of unease and tension, this season grappled with such questions as: What is the role of humor in a moment of adversity? How do we balance loss and joy? How do Jews navigate political identity when it’s so contested? And how do we talk about all of these things when open discussion feels most difficult?

Season 1 Guests:

  • Michelle Borstein, religion reporter at The Washington Post
  • Actor Richard Kind in conversation with former speechwriter and author David Litt
  • US Representative Greg Landsman (OH-01)
  • Pulitzer Prize-winning author Kathryn Schulz in conversation with author and New York Times journalist Sarah Wildman
  • David Frum and Hanna Rosin, journalists at The Atlantic
