edcjcc preschool: flow of the day
PRESCHOOL LIFE UNDER COVID PROTOCOLS
The EDCJCC Preschool re-opened on September 1, 2020, under all applicable guidelines and regulations from OSSE (our licensing office), the Mayor’s office, and the CDC. We are open 5 days a week, for 8 hours a day, with limited numbers of children and teachers in each classroom and with staggered assigned drop-off and pick-up times. The Flow of the Day below reflects a normal non-pandemic year; we are not currently offering Early Room or Aftercare. Please email mszubin@edcjcc.org for more information about how we are operating during Covid-19.
Instead of a strict universal schedule for the school, the structure of a school day is flexible and guided by factors such as the children’s age, energy level and degree of engagement in a specific activity. Some mornings, children might spend the majority of their time on an exploration, whereas on other days their teachers might determine that they might need more gross motor play.
Keeping our schedule fluid allows for teachers and children to shape school experiences that best suit their needs.
A typical Preschool day looks like this…
7:45 AM – 8:45 AM | Early Room Drop-Off (we ask that all children be here by 9:30 AM) |
8:45 AM – 12:15 PM | Morning Activities Each morning contains the following elements, but the duration and order varies:
|
12:15 PM – 1:00 PM | Lunch |
1:00 PM – 3:30 PM | Nap or Quiet Room and post-nap transitions |
3:30 PM – 4:15 PM | Afternoon Snack Time and Intentional Play |
4:15 PM – 6:00 PM (additional fees apply) |
Aftercare, including Gross Motor Play Afternoon Enrichment Classes (e.g., swim lessons, pre-ballet, karate, Spanish) |
