Thank you for your interest in the Edlavitch DCJCC Preschool!
We run on a school year system, from September through August, so children are admitted for the September following their second birthday (or just prior, in the case of September and October birthdays). In order to be considered for admission, children must be on our Waitlist (see below). There is no other admissions process; your waitlist form serves as your application. When we begin the admissions process in late January/early February, we send out offers to new families based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, whether an older sibling has been a student, date of waitlist sign-up, past participation in EDCJCC programs, and other considerations necessary to create balanced classrooms.
So once you are on the Waitlist, there is no need for any further action until admission offers go out.
We welcome new families into our 3-year-old and 4-year-old classes, using the same admission process outlined above, if there is space once our current families have re-enrolled. Fill out the Waitlist application (see below) if you are interested in a spot for a 3-year-old or 4-year-old. Your child will be sorted by birth date into the correct applicant pool, but there is only one Waitlist.
We do occasionally have mid-year openings, as folks move away or have other unexpected situations arise. Please email Miriam to let us know if you are interested in a mid-year spot.
Please note that all of our admissions are done from our waitlist; there is no separate admission list. There is a $50 waitlist application fee.
Please fill out our online waitlist application on the CampMinder site. GET ON THE WAITLIST
Important Note about the Waitlist Application: When filling out the application, please select the “2019 SEASON” to find the Preschool Waitlist Application. Admission for all future years (2020, 2021, 2022, etc.) are done from the 2019 Season Waitlist; there will be no need to re-enroll once you are on the 2019 list.

Important update about the 2018-19 school year
The Edlavitch DCJCC is undergoing a major renovation of our building, beginning in the fall of 2018, with completion by September of 2019. The renovation will enhance the Center as a whole and will bring some very exciting changes and improvements to the Preschool. The renovation will include brand new classrooms, new gross motor play and art spaces, a new separate Preschool elevator and stairwell for easier pick-up and drop-off, and enhanced security for our early childhood programs. The EDCJCC will be refreshed throughout the building, and all of the mechanicals are being replaced to insure an easy-to-maintain and more environmentally friendly building. The EDCJCC will be an even warmer and more welcoming new home for our entire community when we return in the fall of 2019.
As we are renovating our current building during the entire 2018-2019 school year, our students in the 3s, 4s, and Pre-K classes are located just across the street from the EDCJCC, at the Foundry United Methodist Church. The Foundry is located at 1500 16th St, right next to Stead Park on the corner of 16th and P Street. Our new 2 year old classes are in a large 2-room mobile classroom (trailer designed for this purpose) on the EDCJCC’s parking lot.
We will be offering Group Tours throughout the 2018-19 school year (see dates above). These tours will be of our temporary spaces, rather than the newly renovated building that will welcome families beginning in September 2019. Please keep in mind that although the physical space you will see will be different (and better!) when your children are old enough to attend, what you will see on your tour in terms of our pedagogy, community, general schedule and approach will remain the same after the renovations.
Please reach out to Miriam with any questions! She can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or (202) 777-3263. The best way to contact her is via email; she is usually in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
