Join the EDCJCC to celebrate Good Deeds Day with a meaningful morning of learning and service. We will embrace the Passover theme of “welcoming the stranger” by hearing from a recently-arrived refugee and supporting organizations serving refugees and asylum seekers.
Join us to celebrate Good Deeds Day with a meaningful morning of learning and service. With Passover around the corner, we will embrace the theme of "welcoming the stranger, for we were strangers," and support organizations serving refugees and asylum seekers.
We will start by hearing from Habib Barra, who fled Afghanistan with his wife and young daughter in the middle of the night as Kabul fell, as well as a member of the HIAS policy team who will discuss the current refugee and asylum landscape. Then, volunteers will assemble toiletry kits and other essential items for immigrants and asylum-seekers in the DC area.
This program is geared towards volunteers ages 12+. We request a registration fee of $18 per person to help offset the cost of supplies for this project. If this cost is in any way prohibitive to your participation or if you have any additional questions, please email Sonya at sweisburd@edcjcc.org. EntryPointDC, the EDCJCC's program for Jewish young adults in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s, will organize an optional brunch at a nearby restaurant afterwards.
