Adults (18+)

Date : Wednesday, Oct 22

Time : 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join the EDCJCC’s Jews of Color Affinity Group for a community-building dinner and to hear from Rabbi Angela Buchdal, the first ordained Asian-American rabbi in North America.

Join the EDCJCC’s Jews of Color and their Families Affinity Group for dinner and to hear from Rabbi Angela Buchdahl at Sixth & I, as she discusses her new book. We’ll gather for dinner and community-building at Chaia Tacos before the event, then head over to grab seats together.

Rabbi Angela Buchdahl was born in Korea and grew up in Tacoma, Washington, the daughter of a Korean Buddhist mother and Jewish American father. Despite the naysayers and periods of self-doubt—would a mixed-race woman ever be seen as authentically Jewish and entitled to lead a congregation—she became the first Asian-American to be ordained as a rabbi in North America. Buchdahl is the Senior Rabbi of Central Synagogue in New York City and the first woman to lead the congregation in its 185-year history.

Space in our group is limited and RSVP is required. Please note that participants will have to purchase their own tickets for this event through Sixth and I, but that we will send you a discount code for $5 off your ticket purchase. The EDCJCC will cover dinner. If you have any questions, please reach out to Sonya at sweisburd@edcjcc.org.

Please note this program is specifically curated for community members who identify as Jews of Color and for their families. If you do not identify as being part of this community, we invite you to attend a different event curated by the EDCJCC.
