No performance could happen at Theater J without our volunteer ushers, a group of dedicated individuals who help us create a welcoming environment for all patrons.
Our ushers generally arrive one hour before the show to help greet patrons, take tickets, pass out programs, sell concessions, and create a pleasant theater going experience for our audiences, as well as getting to see the performance. They work under the direct supervisor of our house managers.
We do not require our ushers to wear a ‘uniform,’ but we ask that they dress professionally and respectfully, as if attending as a patron (no jeans, t-shirts, or athletic wear, please). If possible, they wear all black. They are given a badge to wear so that the patrons can recognize them as the person to go to with questions and concerns.
As front-of-house volunteers, ushers are essential to creating a welcoming space for all our patrons. Theater J and the Edlavitch DCJCC commit to being an inclusive, safe, and welcoming space for all. This institution does not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations from either patrons or staff. Please visit the Policies page to learn more about our policies and procedures.
