Script Submissions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Theater J produces five full-length plays each season in our 236-seat proscenium theater. Each season includes plays by both emerging and established writers that celebrate, wrestle with, or explore issues of Jewish religion, history, and culture. We have a special interest in plays that fit our mission written by artists who have historically been underrepresented in Jewish theater, including women and artists of color, as well as plays which feature the stories of racially and ethnically diverse Jews. We also produce an annual Yiddish Theater Lab<\/a> series featuring English-language readings and workshops of work from or inspired by the Yiddish Theater canon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Theater J accepts unsolicited script submissions that celebrate, wrestle with, or explore issues of Jewish religion, history, and culture in the following categories only:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Plays submitted by agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Plays written by Israeli artists that have received or are scheduled to receive full productions in Israel;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Plays written by playwrights who are Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC);<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. English-language translations or adaptations of plays from the Yiddish Theater canon;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Plays submitted through the Trish Vradenburg Jewish Play Prize (for established playwrights) or the Patty Abramson Jewish Play Prize (for emerging women playwrights). For information on eligibility criteria and submission guidelines for either prize, please visit the New Jewish Play Prizes<\/a> webpage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the volume of scripts we receive and our desire to respond to playwrights with care and promptness, Theater J is unable to accept any other unsolicited submissions of new work. This includes letters of inquiry, synopses and dialogue samples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agent-submitted scripts, Israeli-authored and produced plays, BIPOC-authored plays, and English-language translations or adaptations of plays from the Yiddish Theater canon should be emailed to LitOffice@TheaterJ.org<\/a>. Please indicate in your email heading under which category your submission is eligible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
