Where To?

An intimate and inventive feature debut, Where To? explores questions of identity, family, and personal history from within the confines of a taxi.

Hassan left his home town of Jenin at age 25 and has spent thirty years navigating life in Berlin. The 55-year-old Palestinian Uber driver now spends his nights shuttling strangers from one party to the next. Estranged from his family and far from his roots, Hassan often finds himself driving the streets without any sense of purpose. One night, Amir, 25-year-old Israeli tourist exploring his sexual identity far from home, stumbles into Hassan’s cab and begins a conversation cut into snippets across multiple cab rides.

Months later, Amir makes a reappearance. he is now living in Berlin and suffering from heartbreak after the tortuous end of a love affair. As their rides together recur across two years, Hassan begins to recognize echoes of his own buried pain in Amir’s struggles. Eventually, their late night journeys help Hassan to confront his own past – including the events that led him to leaving his homeland 30 years ago.
