Celebrate the receiving of the Torah at Mount Sinai by getting out into nature and exploring the Torah wisdom to be found in the trees and natural beauty of Rock Creek Park. Bring your friends or family for this self-guided outdoor experience which will offer points of connection for individuals of all ages and levels of observance.
You can arrive anytime between 11:00Am and 3:00PM, EDCJCC staff will greet you at the trailhead, give you a guide book, and help you set an intention for your journey. Throughout the hike, you’ll find signs prompting moments of reflection, stories, and opportunities to connect with yourself, your family, and the themes of the holiday. There will be an optional playlist to accompany your walk and options to engage with other hikers through social media. A yummy frozen treat will be given out at the end of the hike.
The “hike” begins with a 0.5 mi walk on a mostly paved path with guiding thoughts and meditations along the way. When you get to the end of the 0.5 mi walk (~ 10 minutes ), you will have the option to cross a bridge and return along a more difficult dirt path that ascends a few stairs and goes back down a steep hill (another 0.5 mi). You can also return along the paved path if you so choose.
** Please note that all participants must wear a mask and observe social distancing guidelines
This program is brought to you by the Edlavitch DCJCC and funded by The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and The United Jewish Endowment Fund.
