Celebrate MLK Day and Tu B’Shvat with the Rock Creek Conservancy!

What: This year, MLK Day of Service and Learning coincides with the Jewish holiday of Tu B’Shvat, or the “new year of the trees”. This holiday, established by the rabbis in ancient times, is celebrated by eating special fruits, planting and honoring trees, and in recent decades, with environmental activism and learning.

To celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Tu B’shvat, join the EDCJCC, the Rock Creek Conservancy, and The National Park Service for a socially-distant trash cleanup. We will be focusing our cleanup efforts on one of our mini-oases, Carter Barron. We will provide trash bags, gloves, and directions on trash pick-up – you just have to come ready to work! We will also spend a little bit of time learning about the holiday of Tu B’shvat.

Who: This event is for families with young children. If you are an adult looking to volunteer on MLK Day, please sign up for our other MLK Day project – the waterways clean-up.

When: Monday, January 17th, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Where: Carter Barron section of Rock Creek Park. Exact meeting location will be provided upon registration.

What to Wear: Please dress appropriately for the work and weather. We recommend wearing long sleeves, pants, and sturdy boots or sneakers.

Registration: Participation is free but registration is required as there are limited spots. Please click on the red “Register” icon in order to proceed to registration.
