Inspiring Social Skills through Media

Inspiring Social Skills through Media

January 20, 2021 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Social skills lessons provide opportunities for adults to identify social cues and communication skills in typical social settings. This class reviews the social skills you may have learned when you were younger or in school as well as expand upon skills to use as an adult today. Using a variety of media formats as a basis for lessons helps break down the behaviors and allows for conversations and instruction on appropriate vs inappropriate behaviors.

The participants in this class will receive a handout each week on a topic and watch a short video link before class. During the class we’ll watch a variety of clips from TV shows and movies. Together we’ll discuss the behaviors and how they apply to our lives. There are opportunities to learn about different types of friendships, how to engage in conversations, verbal and nonverbal cues, appropriate use of social media, expected vs unexpected behaviors, compromising, etc.
