Frequently Asked Questions
YES! Everyone is welcome at all GLOE events, programs and projects!
People ask us all the time if they can come because of some particular identity they either have or don’t have. You can come if you are Jewish or not, any sexuality (yes, including straight), any genders, religious or secular, any age, and any other category you can think of. All are welcome, and no one is ever made to feel they are not [______] enough to be here.
Nope. GLOE does a mix of programming because we all like and connect to different things. Some programs are religious or spiritually related, and some are not.
We have some people who come to lots of things, but never a religious program, and others who come to only religious programs. It’s up to you; no judgments.
GLOE hosts nationally- and internationally-recognized artists, speakers, writers, politicians, singers, comedians, filmmakers, activists, rabbis, saints and trouble-makers.
We often do major arts and literary programs, and events around social justice or political issues. We have our own Community Service Initiative and GLOE Youth & Family programs. We also do religious or spiritually-connected programs around many holidays or areas of study.
And of course, we’ve got social events – because some of us just want to schmooze, or are still looking for that nice Jewish girl/boy/person to bring home to bubbie.
Please do! We are always open to important/interesting/innovative program ideas. We’ve been very lucky to bring in lots of great people, and often, recommended people have already been here.
If your person or idea has not already been done, email gloe@edcjcc.org, with “GLOE Program Idea” in the subject line. Be aware that we schedule events many months ahead of time and if your person is going to be in town next week, that’s probably not enough notice.
Most events are mixed. Of course some events will skew one way or the other, but even at those, the crowd is still mixed in ages. If you have a question about a specific event, please don’t hesitate to contact GLOE at gloe@edcjcc.org or 202.777.3253.
We try very hard to program to a range of interests, and our numbers tell us that, yes, throughout the year we’re pretty even over multiple age brackets.
Yes! Every year, the majority of our programs are either FREE or under $10. Further, many other programs need volunteers to help run them, and volunteers get to attend the event for free in exchange for helping with some aspect of running it.
If you’d like to volunteer for an event, please contact GLOE at gloe@edcjcc.org or 202-777-3253.
Thank you! More than half of GLOE’s annual budget comes from individual contributions from those wonderful people who want to support Jewish LGBTQ programs in Washington, DC. We are grateful for donations in all amounts.
You can donate online at edcjcc.org/gloedonation or contact the development office at development@edcjcc.org to make other arrangements.
