SUMMARY:Hunger Action at DC Central Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:Join us to volunteer with DC Central Kitchen\, a close partner organization that uses volunteer help to transform 3\,000 pounds of otherwise wasted food into 5\,000 healthy meals for schools\, homeless shelters\, and social service agencies. Volunteers will work in their professional kitchen to chop vegetables\, sort fresh produce\, mix salads\, portion meals\, and more! \n \nPlease note that DCCK welcomes volunteers ages 12 and older for this opportunity. Teens ages 12-18 are invited to volunteer with the Youth Action Institute. We will meet at the DC Central Kitchen located in southwest DC. The address will be provided with registration. \n \nThere is limited space for this program and registration is required for participation. As DC Central Kitchen relies on a specific number of volunteers to be able to produce the meals they need\, we ask that you only register if you are committed to showing up to volunteer on this day. If you have any questions\, please reach out to Lyssa at ajellenik@edcjcc.org.

SUMMARY:New Parent Coffee: Lightening the Parenting Load
DESCRIPTION:Join us for coffee\, the company of other new parents\, and a relaxed conversation about how to get the help you need to lighten your parenting load. Parenthood brings new responsibilities and new joys that need to fit into your already-busy life. Led by Jennifer Mickel of The Third Shift\, a company focused on maximizing joyful parenthood\, this conversation will cover how to find support\, including the lesser-known options around dishes\, laundry\, and meal prep that many parents don’t think about. \nWe’ll talk about what’s available\, how to decide what help is worth getting\, and how to make choices that fit your family and your budget. You’ll leave with ideas for affordable household help\, a framework for deciding what makes sense for your situation\, and concrete resources you can explore based on your needs. \nBring your babies! Expecting parents also warmly welcomed. New Parent Coffees are open to any new parents or anyone expecting the arrival of a baby\, whether biological\, adoptive\, through a gestational carrier\, or any other pathway. LGBTQ and straight\, Jewish and non-Jewish – all are warmly welcomed! \nIf you have any questions\, please reach out to Miriam at mszubin@edcjcc.org.

SUMMARY:Before Baby: A Series for Expecting Parents
DESCRIPTION:Expecting your first baby? Looking to create community with other expecting parents? This group will meet weekly in person at the EDCJCC (at 16th and Q) for four weeks to provide a safe space for parents-to-be to discuss their experiences and learn from one another. We will be joined each week by an expert in a relevant field\, including a perinatal mental health provider\, a doula\, and a lactation and feeding specialist\, who will help us understand the range of support options and services available. Of course\, we will leave plenty of time for Q&A\, discussion\, and schmoozing. \n\n\n\nThis session will be held on Tuesday evenings\, June 2-23\, 2026. The first and fourth weeks are intended for expecting moms only. Dads and non-birthing parents are warmly welcomed to join us for Weeks 2 and 3\, and they will have the option to have their own separate session on Week 4 if desired. The group will be kept small so that connections can be fostered easily. \n\n\n\nAdvance registration is required. If you have any questions or if the cost of this program poses a barrier in any way\, please reach out to Miriam at mszubin@edcjcc.org.

SUMMARY:Teen Volunteer Project: DC Central Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:Teens ages 12-18 are invited to join us for a morning of volunteering with our close partner organization DC Central Kitchen\, which uses volunteer help to transform 3\,000 pounds of otherwise wasted food into 5\,000 healthy meals for schools\, homeless shelters\, and social service agencies. Volunteers will work in their professional kitchen to chop vegetables\, sort fresh produce\, mix salads\, portion meals\, and more! \n\n\n\nThere is limited space for this program and registration is required for participation. As DC Central Kitchen relies on a specific number of volunteers to be able to produce the meals they need\, we ask that you only register if you are committed to showing up to volunteer on this day. Teens who participate are eligible to earn 3 SSL hours. \n\n\n\nFree to attend\, but space is very limited and advance RSVP is required. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions – or if you would like to be added to the waitlist – please contact Lyssa at ajellenik@edcjcc.org.

SUMMARY:Family Shabbat Clusters
DESCRIPTION:Looking for a Shabbat community? Want to meet other families in the DC area? Join our Family Shabbat Cluster\, a small group of families who meet for a monthly potluck dinner at each other’s homes. This program is intended for families with children ages 0-7 who are Jewish\, Jew-ish\, or anything in between! \n\n\n\nWe’ll kick off the season with a Shabbat dinner at the Edlavitch DCJCC on Friday\, July 11 – dinner is on us! Come meet your Shabbat Cluster\, make a challah cover with your family\, and set the dates for your future dinners together. \n\n\n\nFamilies do not need to attend all Shabbat dinners to participate in the program\, but we strongly encourage it. The program runs through December 2026 with one Shabbat dinner a month. Families will take turns hosting dinner in their home. The EDCJCC will provide Shabbat blessings\, ritual materials\, and logistical support in setting up the dinners. \n\n\n\nRegistration closes on Monday\, July 6. \n\n\n\nPlease note that the registration fee helps the JCC cover some of the costs of running the Family Shabbat Clusters program and represents your commitment to attending. If this cost is prohibitive or if you have any additional questions\, please email Sonya at sweisburd@edcjcc.org.

SUMMARY:Pencil Packs for Community of Hope
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for an evening of volunteering! We will begin the evening with a pizza dinner\, followed by assembling pencil packs for Community of Hope. Community of Hope provides direct services to address the needs of homeless and low-income families and individuals in DC. Each year\, they distribute close to 1500 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to their clients and members of the community. Pre-registration is required for this program\, and we expect it to fill up quickly! This event is designed for volunteers ages 7+. \nWe request a $10 registration fee for anyone over the age of 5 to help offset the cost of supplies. If this is in any way prohibitive to your participation or if you have any additional questions\, please email Mira at msmith@edcjcc.org. \nThere is limited space for this program and registration is required for participation. As the JCC relies on a specific number of volunteers to be able to produce the amount of Pencil Packs that Community of Hope needs\, we ask that you only register if you are committed to showing up to volunteer on this day.
