SUMMARY:Handmade for the Homeless - March 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join fellow knitters and crocheters to make handmade goodies for a great cause! Our goal is to contribute as many warm winter items as possible to distribute to individuals experiencing homelessness in the DC area. All levels of knitters and crocheters are welcome. If you are not already working on a warm winter item and are looking for a great project or just starting out\, please bring #8 or #10 knitting needles (circular or straight) or a size H crochet hook. Don’t forget the patterns you’re working on or want to start. \n\n\n\nWhat do you supply? We provide lots of beautiful yarn\, several patterns including hat patterns using #17 needles or a size N crochet hook\, and experienced knitters and crocheters to teach anyone who would like to learn. If you can’t join us in person\, join us in spirit by knitting or crocheting hats\, scarves\, gloves and mittens\, socks or slippers\, and other items to keep people warm during the cold winter months. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions about this event\, contact Chana at chanaengel@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Prepping for Parenthood
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the EDCJCC for a workshop that prepares you practically for the profound transformation of becoming a parent. Most pre-birth preparation focuses entirely on caring for the baby. But caring for yourself as you transition to this new stage deserves just as much preparation. \n\n\n\nLet’s face it: the new baby will take up considerable emotional and logistical space in your already full life. Something will have to give. This workshop helps you prepare for that reality. We’ll map your support network before you need it. We’ll talk about which services to book now so you’re not scrambling later. And we’ll create a plan for making conscious choices about what gives—so you can transition to parenthood while preserving your friendships\, your hobbies\, and time just for you. \n\n\n\nYou’ll leave with:• Your postpartum support network mapped out (who to call for what\, before you’re in crisis mode).• Services pre-selected so you’re not making decisions while exhausted.• A concrete plan for reclaiming your time and identity as the intensity eases.• A guilt-free framework for making it easier—shortcuts\, outsourcing\, and simplifying aren’t failing\, they’re how you create space to actually be present.• A script for the partnership conversation about who does what. \n\n\n\nBabies are welcome. Partners are encouraged to attend. While there may be some discussion of the biological pregnancy\, birthing\, and postpartum experience\, we welcome anyone expecting the arrival of a baby\, whether biological\, adoptive\, through a gestational carrier\, or any other pathway. LGBTQ and straight\, Jewish and non-Jewish – all are warmly welcomed! \n\n\n\nThis workshop will be led by Jennifer Mickel\, Founder of The Third Shift\, a company that brings management frameworks to the mental load. Jennifer brings her JD-MBA and strategy consulting experience to helping parents streamline family operations and reclaim more joy. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions or if the cost of this program is prohibitive\, please reach out to Miriam at mszubin@edcjcc.org.

SUMMARY:Hunger Action at DC Central Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:Join us to volunteer with DC Central Kitchen\, a close partner organization that uses volunteer help to transform 3\,000 pounds of otherwise wasted food into 5\,000 healthy meals for schools\, homeless shelters\, and social service agencies. Volunteers will work in their professional kitchen to chop vegetables\, sort fresh produce\, mix salads\, portion meals\, and more! \n \nPlease note that DCCK welcomes volunteers ages 12 and older for this opportunity. Teens ages 12-18 are invited to volunteer with the Youth Action Institute. We will meet at the DC Central Kitchen located in southwest DC. The address will be provided with registration. \n \nThere is limited space for this program and registration is required for participation. As DC Central Kitchen relies on a specific number of volunteers to be able to produce the meals they need\, we ask that you only register if you are committed to showing up to volunteer on this day. If you have any questions\, please reach out to Lyssa at ajellenik@edcjcc.org.

SUMMARY:Museum Hopping for 35-50: National Museum of African American History and Culture
DESCRIPTION:Although DC is a city of incredible museums\, many of us don’t find the time to visit. Find the motivation you’re looking for by joining others ages 35-50 for a twice-monthly museum hop! We’ll meet at a different museum every other Sunday to explore the exhibits\, then sit together in a nearby cafe to discuss what we saw\, share insights\, and build a community. \n\n\n\nRegistration is $8/gathering\, plus occasional museum ticket fees and optional purchases at cafes. Register for as many hops as you’d like – we’re building our community\, so we hope you’ll be able to join multiple trips! \n\n\n\nAbout this trip: We’ll meet at 3:00 PM to view the museum’s art collection\, followed by a chat in a nearby cafe. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, please reach out to Rabbi Atara at acohen@edcjcc.org.

SUMMARY:Handmade for the Homeless - February 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join fellow knitters and crocheters to make handmade goodies for a great cause! Our goal is to contribute as many warm winter items as possible to distribute to individuals experiencing homelessness in the DC area. All levels of knitters and crocheters are welcome. Don’t know how to knit or crochet? We’ll teach you! \n\n\n\nWhat should I bring? Please bring your own needles/crochet hooks.
