SUMMARY:Nutrition and Movement Practices in Menopause: What to Know
DESCRIPTION:What do we need to change in our diets and exercise routines to reduce inflammation and other symptoms related to peri/menopause symptoms? How do we build exercise routines and forms of movement that benefit our muscles and bone density but don’t put us at increased risk for injury? During peri/menopause we know that our bodies have specific nutritional needs and physical movement requirements but it is often difficult to sort through the information. \n\n\n\nAfter this panel discussion you will walk away with ways to improve your nutrition and protect your body during peri/menopause. \n\n\n\nThis program is free to attend\, but space is limited and advance RSVP is required. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, please contact Dena at dkatz@edcjcc.org.

SUMMARY:Menstrual Kit Packing
DESCRIPTION:Spend your evening supporting Ayuda\, an organization supporting low-income immigrants throughout Washington DC\, Maryland and Virginia. Volunteers will first hear from an Ayuda staff member about the organization’s critical work to provide legal\, social\, and language services to help low-income immigrants in our neighborhood. Then volunteers will pack hundreds of kits filled with menstrual products and other hygiene essentials. \nThe minimum age to volunteer is 8 for this program. Parents should determine whether packing menstrual kits is appropriate for their children on a case by case basis. The registration fee helps cover the cost of supplies. Please reach out to msmith@edcjcc.org if cost is a barrier to participation or if you have any additional questions. \nThis program will begin with a seated presentation followed by kit-making which will be a standing assembly line.

SUMMARY:Museum Hopping for 35-50: National Gallery of Art
DESCRIPTION:We apologize\, but this event has been cancelled. We look forward to seeing you at another program soon. \n\n\n\nAlthough DC is a city of incredible museums\, many of us don’t find the time to visit. Find the motivation you’re looking for by joining others ages 35-50 for a twice-monthly museum hop! We’ll meet at a different museum every other Sunday to explore the exhibits\, then sit together in a nearby cafe to discuss what we saw\, share insights\, and build a community. \n\n\n\nRegistration is $8/gathering\, plus occasional museum ticket fees and optional purchases at cafes. Register for as many hops as you’d like – we’re building our community\, so we hope you’ll be able to join multiple trips! \n\n\n\nAbout this trip: Join us in viewing the NGA’s Back and Forth exhibit. Spanning six centuries and different cultures\, four paintings reveal how artists engage with art history—and become part of it. We’ll meet at 3:00 PM to explore the exhibition\, followed by a chat in a nearby cafe. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, please reach out to Rabbi Atara at acohen@edcjcc.org.

SUMMARY:Hadar DC: Shir HaShirim Through Melody and Midrash
DESCRIPTION:Traditionally chanted on Shabbat over Pesah\, the poetry of Shir HaShirim (the Song of Songs) explores the literal devotion of two lovers and the metaphorical intimacy between God and Israel. Equal parts musical exploration and text study\, join R. Deborah Sacks Mintz and R. Avi Strausberg as we put these evocative verses in conversation with their melodies. Together\, we will dig one layer deeper into the communal song and midrashic imagery that define this sacred love song. \n\n\n\nSnacks will be served. \n\n\n\nFree to register\, but RSVP is required. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Instructors:Rabbi Avi Strausberg is the Senior Director of National Learning Initiatives at Hadar and is based in Washington\, DC. Previously\, she served as the Director of Congregational Learning of Temple of Aaron in St. Paul\, Minnesota. She received her rabbinic ordination from Hebrew College in Boston and holds a Masters in Jewish Education. Avi is most grateful for her wife\, Chana\, and three children\, Ori\, Niv\, and Amit. \n\n\n\nAn educator and practitioner of Jewish communal music\, Rabbi Deborah Sacks Mintz supports those who seek a deepened practice of empowered prayer and song. A celebrated composer\, vocalist\, and multi-instrumentalist\, Deborah has collaborated on over two dozen records with a diverse array of voices in the Jewish soundscape\, including her own albums: The Narrow and the Expanse (2020)\, Yetzira (2023)\, and Songs from the Beit Midrash (2026). Deborah serves on the faculty of the Hadar Institute as Director of Tefillah and Music.

SUMMARY:Because You Were Strangers in Egypt: Loving Strangers and Neighbors in Jewish Tradition
DESCRIPTION:Over and over\, the Torah commands “you shall love the stranger because you were strangers in the land of Egypt.” In this timely three-part series\, we will explore how Jews have thought about loving the other in text and practice. We will use a diversity of perspectives from across Jewish history to spark lively conversation about ways we might find meaning in these timeless instructions in a today full of turmoil. \n\n\n\nThis series is open to folks of all Jewish learning backgrounds. Texts will be provided in the original and in translation\, and light snacks will be served. \n\n\n\nThis class meets on Monday evenings\, March 16-30 at the Edlavitch DCJCC. The cost ($45) covers all 3 sessions; you are welcome to join even if you cannot join every session! \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, or if cost is a barrier in any way\, please reach out to Rabbi Atara at acohen@edcjcc.org. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Instructor: Rabbi Atara Cohen serves as the Director of Jewish Life and Learning at the EDCJCC in Washington DC\, where she cultivates innovative and diverse communities around Jewish values and practice. Rabbi Atara has a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Princeton University and was granted Orthodox ordination by Yeshivat Maharat. She brings several years of experience fostering pluralistic Jewish communities in New York City\, including serving as part of the Congregation Beit Simchat Torah clergy team\, teaching Judaics at Heschel Middle School\, and leading Base Manhattan. Trained in traditional Yeshiva contexts\, Atara is dedicated to translating the complexity of tradition into approachable content for manifold contexts with extensive experience teaching and writing curricula for students of all ages and backgrounds. She lives in Washington\, DC with her spouse and a growing number of not-yet-dead houseplants.
